Fastest Cooking Technology We’ve Tested
TL/DR –
Induction cooktops and ranges offer faster cooking times, built-in safety features, ease of cleaning, and environmental benefits, according to chef and writer Paul Hope. In comparison with gas stoves, induction cooking is three times more energy-efficient and can help lower utility bills. However, the transition to induction cooking can be expensive, may require adjusting cooking techniques, and may emit a buzzing sound, and not all cookware is compatible with induction technology.
Switch to Induction Cooktops for Faster Cooking and Lesser Environmental Impact
Switching to induction cooktops has several advantages. According to Paul Hope, a trained chef who writes for Consumer Reports, these cooktops cook food faster, have built-in safety features, and offer environmental benefits that can decrease your utility bills.
As per Hope, water boils two to four minutes faster on induction cooktops than on gas or electric ones. He noted that 90% of induction ranges earn top scores for high-heat cooking in their tests. These cooktops are also easier to clean and offer safety features.
The Department of Energy states that induction stoves are three times more energy-efficient than gas stoves. A study also found that methane can leak from gas stoves even when they’re not in use.
Cost Concerns and Upgrades of Induction Cooktops
Despite the benefits, induction ranges can be expensive. However, the Inflation Reduction Act offers up to $840 off on induction ranges. This incentive might be eliminated soon according to President Donald Trump. Induction burners are affordable for renters and those on a budget, with prices starting at about $50.
Hope warned that not all cookware is compatible with induction and these cooktops might emit a buzzing noise.
Consumer Reactions to Induction Cooktops
Consumer Reports conducted a poll on TikTok asking people to choose between induction and gas ranges. Many induction users expressed their satisfaction. “My new induction range blew my mind,” one commenter said. Another is excited about upgrading to induction from gas.
