Biden Administration’s Clean Ports Program Opens for Applications

The Biden administration has opened applications for the Clean Ports Program, offering $3 billion in funds to promote zero-emissions operations in America’s ports. This initiative aims to meet equipment and infrastructure needs that can reduce mobile source emissions at U.S. ports, according to a release by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The funds have been sourced from the $891 million Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and applications to the Clean Ports Program will remain open until May 28.

“The historic funding reflects President Biden’s vision of growing our economy while ensuring America leads in creating globally competitive future solutions,” said EPA Administrator Michael Regan. “We’re making $3 billion available to install cleaner and more efficient technologies while reducing air pollution to protect those who work at and live near ports.”

Earlier this year, the North Carolina Ports’ container terminal at the Port of Wilmington was ranked as the most productive port in the country by the Container Port Performance Index for 2022. The port also ranks 44th in the world, according to a technical report by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence.
