Segway Recalls 220,000 Scooters Over Safety Concerns, Citing Fall Hazards
Segway Scooter Recall: 220,000 Units Cited for Safety Hazards
Discover the latest updates on FoxBusiness.com. A significant safety hazard has led to the recall of nearly a quarter of a million Segway scooters, officials have announced.
Recall Announcement by U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) declared the recall, which covers all 220,000 units of the Segway Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP KickScooters. The primary concern is the model’s folding mechanism, which may be faulty, thereby posing a danger to consumers. The recall was issued after reports of the folding mechanism failing and causing the handlebars or stem to fold while the scooter is in use.
Segway Scooter Injuries
Segway has received 68 reports of folding mechanism failures, leading to around 20 injuries. These ranged from minor abrasions and bruises to severe lacerations and broken bones. Segway urges owners of the recalled scooters to stop using them immediately.
Remedial Measures and Maintenance Kit
Owners are advised to contact Segway for information on whether the folding mechanism needs adjustment and to receive a free maintenance kit. This kit includes tools and instructions for checking and tightening the folding mechanism, ensuring its proper maintenance.
