SIKA Boosts US Concrete Admixture Production Capacity

419

TL/DR –

Sika is expanding its polymer production at its Sealy site in Texas in response to increased demand for its concrete admixture in the USA and Canada. The company’s product, Sika® ViscoCrete®, is a high-performance, resource-saving concrete admixture that reduces concrete’s carbon footprint and increases its strength and durability. Increased investment in large-scale infrastructure developments and the relocation of international manufacturing to the USA, especially in the batteries and semiconductors sectors, are expected to drive more demand, with the USA’s demand for concrete additives projected to reach $3.6 billion by 2026.

SIKA Boosts Concrete Admixtures Production Capacity in USA

Sika ramps up its polymer production at the Sealy site in Texas. This marks Sika’s second polymer investment in Texas within five years. The expansion is a response to the growing demand for Sika’s high-performance, resource-saving concrete admixture, Sika® ViscoCrete®, in the USA and Canada.

The forthcoming U.S. government initiatives like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) will unlock several business opportunities for Sika solutions. The initiatives aim to revitalize America’s infrastructure and tackle climate change. This will boost investments in large-scale infrastructure projects and the expansion of energy and water facilities. Also, the reshoring efforts to bring back international manufacturing to the USA will fuel the construction of new factories, especially in the batteries and semiconductors sectors.

The USA’s demand for concrete additives is projected to experience the fastest growth among developed countries. The market is expected to maintain a CAGR of 3.4% and reach USD 3.6 billion by 2026.

Mike Campion, Regional Manager Americas, notes: “By expanding Sika® ViscoCrete® production at the Sealy site, Sika can meet the growing demand. This aligns with the global shift towards more sustainable construction and the requirements for lower embodied carbon concrete.”

More Sustainability in Construction with Sika® ViscoCrete®

Concrete, the world’s most widely used building material, can reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining the desired performance through Sika® ViscoCrete® high-performance admixture technology.

Sika® ViscoCrete® is a superplasticizer for concrete production. It significantly reduces water usage and enhances the material’s strength and durability by increasing structural density and reducing porosity. It also allows for shorter handling and compaction times and increases concrete strength, enabling the construction of thinner, more durable concrete structures.
