A Personal Journey: From Milwaukee to Medellín and Back to Florida

I spent my formative years in Milwaukee, where I started a family with my first wife. After an enchanting vacation in Maui, Hawaii, we decided to relocate to the island in 2014. Unfortunately, our marriage didn’t survive, and I returned to the mainland.

Starting Over in Florida

By 2018, I had found love again with Cindy, a friend from Florida. We engaged in a long-distance relationship until I moved to the Sunshine State after my children completed high school. Eventually, we decided to embrace a nomadic lifestyle.

Settling Down in Medellín, Colombia

We were drawn to Medellín, a popular spot for digital nomads. With Colombia’s lower cost of living and excellent healthcare, it was the perfect place to recover from our extensive travels. With a student visa, I started studying Spanish while Cindy split her time between Colombia and the US on a tourist visa.

Experiencing Luxurious Living in Colombia

We lived in the prime section of Medellín, the Golden Mile of Poblado, where I secured a beautiful two-bedroom apartment. With malls, restaurants, and even American brands like Starbucks nearby, we had everything we needed within walking distance.

We experienced a luxury lifestyle in Colombia, hiring a cook, cleaner, and personal trainer. Moreover, the healthcare was excellent, and the convenience of the Rappi app made daily life even easier.

Returning to Florida

After two incredible years in Colombia, we returned to Florida to be closer to our grandchildren. However, the higher cost of living made it impossible to maintain the lifestyle we had in Colombia. With the fear of potential medical emergencies and increasing living costs in the US, we have decided to leave the country for good.

Moving abroad provides us with a better quality of life and financial freedom without compromising our lifestyle.
