Tree board discusses grant funding

At a meeting on November 20, the Sydney Tree Board discussed the status of the Inflation Reduction Act Funding Tree Grant, which currently holds a balance of $184,596.57. Street Manager Brian Green, who took the initiative to inform city residents of potential planting sites by mailing 250 letters, informed the board about the response.

Recipients of the letters were given the opportunity to decline participation. Green noted that a significant number of residents chose not to partake. Nonetheless, 161 trees are due to be planted by Weigandt Landscaping, a task they commenced on November 2.

In addition, Weigandt Landscaping is tasked with planting another 36 trees as part of a tree lottery.

Regarding the tree sale the Board holds, 66 trees were purchased by seven customers. The possibility of hosting an educational seminar to attract more participants to the tree sale was also brought up.

As for the Tree City USA & Growth Award, the due date for submission is on December 1. Green has already taken responsibility for the city’s submission.

The Sidney Tree Board has announced the next meeting will take place on Thursday, January 15, at 3:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Service Center conference room at 415 S. Vandemark Road.
