Walmart Announces Massive Store Remodels and New Openings

Walmart’s Plans for Expansion and Remodeling

Walmart has announced an ambitious plan to remodel over 650 stores across the U.S. and open approximately 20 new stores in 2026 and early 2027.

The tech-forward plan, which builds upon their 2024 commitment to open or remodel more than 150 locations, is aimed at creating a more efficient and enjoyable shopping experience for customers.

The Benefits of the Remodel and Expansion Initiative

Walmart explained that this investment is primarily aimed at creating jobs, strengthening local economies, and improving customer experience. These new stores and remodels will stimulate construction jobs throughout the project’s duration and create lasting jobs in retail, pharmacy, and store leadership.

What Changes to Expect in the Remodeled Stores?

Customers visiting the remodeled stores can expect to see wider aisles and intuitive layouts, new displays with expanded assortments, additional pickup and delivery service options, and improved parking and landscaping. The stores will also have new digital touchpoints showcasing Walmart’s online assortment for in-store shoppers.

Pharmacy and Vision Centers Upgrade

The remodels also include updates to Walmart’s vision centers and pharmacies, with the addition of private consultation rooms.

Improvements in Neighborhood Markets

Walmart’s Neighborhood Markets will feature expanded deli and hot bar selections, pharmacy delivery options, enhanced lighting and fixtures, and upgraded areas for fulfilling online grocery orders. The company is adopting a rapid remodel program for select Neighborhood Markets to minimize customer disruption.

New Supercenters in the Pipeline

Walmart’s expansion plan includes the opening of a new Supercenter in Celina, Texas and the expansion of its Supercenter in Tucson, Arizona. Walmart also revealed that it opened nine new stores across Alabama, California, Florida, New Jersey, Texas, and Utah in 2025.

A Redesign of the Great Value Label

The announcement follows Walmart’s recent reveal of a major redesign of its flagship Great Value label, which covers almost 10,000 food and household products. This effort marks the brand’s first full refresh in over a decade and is the most extensive private-label update in Walmart’s history.
