Grand Rapids Community College Music Showcases Best Students at Winter Student Honors Recital 2024

The Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) Music program will spotlight its top students at the highly-anticipated Winter Student Honors Recital on Thursday, March 21, 2024. The biannual event, also held in the fall, celebrates promising musicians and their achievements.

Professor Kevin Dobreff, Department Head and Program Director of music at GRCC, sees the recital as a chance to acknowledge students excelling or greatly improving their craft. The event allows them to perform before peers, faculty, and family, fostering a supportive community atmosphere.

The upcoming recital will showcase a range of talents, including three guitarists, two singers, a solo pianist, two flute players, and a string trio consisting of two violins and a viola. Most performances will be solos, with the exception of the string trio. The repertoire spans composers from the 17th-20th centuries, including Mozart and Mendleson, with two contemporary works added to the mix.

Professor Dobreff encourages other students and the public to join this free event, to get a glimpse of GRCC Music’s activities and support their peers. While admission is free, showing up a few minutes early is advised due to limited seating in the 104-capacity recital hall.

The recital will be hosted at the Linn Maxwell Keller Recital Hall located on the second floor of the Albert P. Smith Music Center, from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Open to GRCC campus community and the general public, it promises to be an enriching experience for all music lovers.
