Amazon Launches AI Health Assistant in US
Amazon started launching Health AI, a new artificial intelligence health assistant, in the United States on March 10.
The company is making this Health AI available to its online and app customers, with plans to expand it to all U.S. customers in the future, as per a recent blog post.
Amazon introduced Health AI to One Medical members through the One Medical app in January, and has received a highly positive response to this AI tool from patients and providers.
The Health AI tool can answer general health questions and, when given access to user health information, can provide personalised health insights and guidance, book appointments, manage prescriptions, and connect users to One Medical providers through various forms.
Prime members can benefit from free direct message care visits with a One Medical provider for over 30 common conditions, according to the post.
“Health AI aims to complement, not replace, your healthcare provider relationship,” stated Prakash Bulusu, Chief Technology Officer at Amazon Health Services, and Dr. Andrew Diamond, Chief Medical Officer at Amazon One Medical.
They emphasised that the tool isn’t meant for self-diagnosis or treatment without the supervision of a healthcare provider, but to help users understand health-related patterns and be better prepared for medical discussions.
Health AI is part of a range of medical services Amazon offers. This includes a same-day prescription delivery service that was expanded to include Idaho and Massachusetts, and nearly 2,000 more communities over the next year.
Amazon One Medical also released a beta feature, Health Insights, to help patients understand routine bloodwork results with personalized analysis and recommendations.
Moreover, Amazon launched Amazon Pharmacy Kiosks in October, enabling patients to collect prescriptions directly after their doctor appointments.
