Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that her office will not extradite Raad Noan Almansoori, who is accused of killing a woman in a New York City hotel, due to concerns about the treatment of violent criminals by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Almansoori, who is being held without bail in Arizona, is accused of stabbing two women in the state. Mitchell advised her staff not to cooperate with extradition efforts, stating that it’s safer to keep him in custody in Arizona.

Mitchell Refuses Extradition of NYC Hotel Murder Suspect

Arizona prosecutor Rachel Mitchell has declared that her office will not extradite the man accused of a NYC hotel murder, criticizing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s handling of violent criminals. The subject of the extradition, Raad Noan Almansoori, 26, is wanted in New York for the murder of Denisse Oleas-Arancibia, 38.

“This is not aimed at the NYPD. They’ve done a good job, we won’t agree to extradition,” Mitchell asserted. Almansoori remains in Arizona custody without bail, accused of stabbing two women.

“Given the Manhattan DA’s treatment of violent criminals, I think it’s safer to keep him here,” Mitchell added. Emily Tuttle, a representative for Bragg, criticized Mitchell’s stance as politically motivated.

The refutation of extradition is disrespectful to the NYPD and hinders justice for the victim, according to Tuttle. Mitchell, a Republican, didn’t specify any particular issue with Democrat Bragg, the first Black district attorney of Manhattan.

Mitchell is known for leading the questioning in the Supreme Court nomination fight of Brett Kavanaugh. Her profile credits this role in elevating her to national prominence.

Bragg, who was elected on a progressive platform, has faced criticism from traditional law enforcement groups. Almansoori was caught in the parking garage of a Scottsdale mall, thanks to automated license plate readers.

“This gentleman was going to continue this string of violence,” warned Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther. In the NYC case, Oleas-Arancibia was found dead in a SoHo hotel room, her death ruled a homicide by blunt force trauma.

In Arizona, Almansoori is accused of stabbing two women—one during a carjacking in Phoenix and the other in a McDonald’s restroom in Surprise.
