Biden’s campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, confirmed that Biden was joking and added that he followed his comment with “all kidding aside”. The White House, however, has declined to comment on the matter.

ABC News reported that Biden informed governors about his medical checkup after a recent 9 p.m. debate. He confirmed his good health, according to two people familiar with the conversation. After initially stating that President Biden had not undergone any medical exams since the time of the debate, the White House later confirmed that he had indeed seen his doctor a few days after.

White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates reported that Biden was recovering well from a cold. Some Democrats, however, expressed concern that such comments could harm the party’s reputation.
