Mayor Brian Marl Begins Reelection Campaign

Mayor Brian Marl officially launched his reelection campaign on May 9, at Mac’s Acadian Seafood Shack. Despite the rainy weather and a clash with the downtown’s Ladies Night Out, approximately 100 guests attended the event.

Marl expressed his appreciation for the turnout in an interview, noting he was especially honored by the presence of friends including U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell and State Representative Felicia Brabec. He described the event as “phenomenal”, despite the weather and scheduling conflict.

When asked about potential rivals in the mayoral race, Marl stated that he is not aware of any other candidates who have filed their paperwork yet, as the filing deadline is still weeks away. He welcomed the prospect of competition, asserting that it can stimulate discussion, debate, and provide voters with a choice.

Marl, who is serving his twelfth year in office, stressed the importance of local government services to citizens and business owners, such as police, fire, road maintenance, water, and sewer infrastructure.

Addressing the issue of criticism, Marl asserted that he views it as a chance to learn and improve. He stressed that anyone choosing politics as a vocation must possess a thick skin and the ability to handle scrutiny and criticism.

Regarding his reelection campaign, Marl outlined his focus on five key, long-term priorities: financial stewardship, economic development, support for public safety, investment in infrastructure, and openness and transparency in city government.
