CNBC Investing Club Recap: Market Rotations, Healthcare Uptick, and Bank Slumps

TL/DR –

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq are dropping due to higher-than-expected consumer inflation data and weakness in semiconductor stocks. However, funds are flowing into safer sectors such as healthcare and consumer staples. Separately, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, and State Street are seeing stock declines due to before-the-bell earnings reports.

CNBC Investing Club’s Morning Meeting Highlights

The CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer holds a morning meeting livestream on weekdays at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here are the key takeaways from Wednesday’s meet. The S & P 500 and Nasdaq took a hit on Wednesday due to warmer-than-expected consumer inflation data for September. iShares Semiconductor ETF is poised for its seventh consecutive day of declines, and cybersecurity shares, including CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks, are also falling.

Meanwhile, investors are flocking towards safer sectors like healthcare and consumer staples, such as Kimberly-Clark. Jim Cramer commented on the unpredictable rotation in the market. He suggested plans to exit Honeywell position, freeing up a spot in the portfolio. He also mentioned several stocks on his radar to buy.

Healthcare Stocks in the Green

Interestingly, all three healthcare stocks, Eli Lilly, Cardinal Health, and Johnson & Johnson, are witnessing gains. Eli Lilly leads, showing an increase of more than 3.5%. Cardinal Health and Johnson & Johnson are both up over 1%. After Cardinal and McKesson renewed their agreements with CVS Health on Oct. 1, their stocks have surged.

Johnson & Johnson’s bounce back from Tuesday’s 5.7% decline, despite an unsatisfactory earnings report, was also a highlight. Jim Cramer expressed interest in buying more J & J stocks.

Bank Stocks Declining

Bank stocks, however, are on a downward trend. Following the earnings reports from Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, and State Street, their shares have declined. Bank of America fell by 7.5% due to missed revenues and a hefty fine from the Treasury Department resulting from a money laundering charge. Wells Fargo and Goldman Sachs have been impacted as well. Despite the fall in Morgan Stanley’s shares, Jim believes the drop doesn’t reflect their performance.

The near 8% fall in State Street is influencing Bank of New York, which is expected to report on Thursday. Bank of New York attracts attention with Jim’s interest to buy more shares to lower their cost basis pending the report.

Rapid Fire Stocks

Wednesday’s rapid fire covered Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Texas Roadhouse. As a member of the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer, you can get trade alerts before any trade takes place.
