Manhunt Underway After Fatal Colorado Shooting
Law enforcement authorities in rural southern Colorado are conducting an extensive search for a gunman responsible for killing three people and injuring another. The dispute appears to be related to property lines.
The deadly incident occurred around 1 p.m. Monday in a secluded woodland area, according to Custer County Sheriff Lloyd “Rich” Smith. The shooter targeted five individuals, leading to the death of two men and a woman.
Another woman sustained chest gunshot wounds but is expected to recover. A fifth person remarkably escaped unharmed.
The suspect is identified as 45-year-old Hanme K. Clark. Authorities describe him as 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. He may be traveling in a white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck with a white topper and license plate BHLK27, said Sheriff Smith.
The suspect and at least one victim reportedly had prior civil disputes over property boundaries. The exact relationship of the gunman to the victims is unclear.
The Gun Violence Archive reports this to be at least the 609th mass shooting in the US this year involving four or more people, excluding the perpetrator.
Authorities, uncertain of the shooter’s whereabouts upon arrival, implemented high-risk procedures due to the wooded surroundings. They successfully located a surviving victim and transported her to a Level 1 trauma center in Colorado Springs.
As a local shelter-in-place order was enforced, a Fremont County SWAT team, a drone, and additional law enforcement personnel embarked on the manhunt. The order was lifted later that evening.
Officials express confidence in locating the suspect and vehicle, and they are coordinating with another law enforcement agency to apprehend the man.
