TL/DR –

The Ann Arbor Observer is working with the local library to expand the digital archive of local history in celebration of Ann Arbor’s bicentennial. The Observer is calling for historical pictures or objects of interest to the community to document them digitally and write an article about them. Desired items range from photos of small businesses, old restaurants, famous houses and celebrities visiting Ann Arbor, to older scrapbooks, newspaper articles, diaries, maps, documents, and family letters related to Ann Arbor life, in addition to objects like company employee uniforms and memorabilia from non-extant local businesses and specific artifacts like the four statues of Justice that topped the 1878 courthouse.

Ann Arbor’s Search for Local Historical Artifacts

As Ann Arbor marks its bicentennial, the Ann Arbor Observer collaborates with the community, including Washtenaw County Historical Society, the U-M’s Bentley Historical Library, and the Ann Arbor District Library, to expand the digital archive of local history.

If you own historical photographs or artifacts that could pique community interest, we encourage you to share them. Selected submissions will be digitally documented by the library, and an article will be written about them in the Observer. Share your local history by emailing a picture or description to history@aaobserver.com.
