Discover Lehigh Valley: Pennsylvania’s Premier Health Insurance Hub

TL/DR –

Pennie, Pennsylvania’s official health insurance marketplace, is working to get more people in the Lehigh Valley insured during open enrollment. On the Pennie platform, many individuals are able to get comprehensive health insurance plans for $10, $20, $30 a month, in comparison to the $500, $600 they could pay without any financial savings. The platform is focusing on this area as there are more people becoming uninsured than insured, and without insurance, they risk not getting medical care for problems that could get worse without treatment.

Choosing Health Care Coverage in Pennsylvania during Open Enrollment

With open enrollment kicking off, Pennsylvania’s Health Insurance Exchange, Pennie, is focusing on providing affordable health care coverage to the uninsured in Lehigh Valley.

Devon Trolley, Pennie’s executive director, stressed the importance of timely enrollment. “You can’t wait until you get sick or injured to enroll,” she said, adding that the program offers plans with significant financial savings.

By connecting individuals lacking affordable coverage with leading insurance companies, Pennie aims to reduce health care costs. “With Pennie we see many people paying $10, $20, $30 a month for comprehensive plans, which without financial savings could cost around $500, $600 a month,” Trolley explained.

She also emphasized Pennie’s efforts to increase awareness in the Lehigh Valley, where people are more likely to be uninsured. The state-run program is the only one offering income-based financial savings on quality plans.

Addressing the Increasing Number of Uninsured

There is a concerning rise in the number of uninsured individuals in the Lehigh Valley. “As Pennie, we want Pennsylvanians to be covered and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with having health coverage,” Trolley shared.

She explained the importance of insurance coverage for financial protection and preventive care. Those insured through Pennie receive free preventive care, such as flu vaccines and important screenings. It also guarantees medical care for conditions that could deteriorate without proper treatment.

With the changing Medicare renewal process, some individuals might not be eligible and left searching for insurance. Fortunately, around a quarter of those who enroll after losing Medicaid can cover their whole family for just $1 a month.

Upcoming Deadlines for Health Insurance Enrollment

The deadline to be insured by New Year is Dec. 15, but the enrollment period extends till Jan. 15. Meanwhile, the annualMedicare Advantage enrollment period is open until Dec. 7.

Medicare Advantage or Part C of Medicare, offered by private companies, is another way for people to manage their healthcare service fees and potentially save money. Ed Rehrig, a regional representative for Geisinger Gold, a Medicare Advantage provider, explained, “With a Medicare Advantage plan, your rate is based upon the county that you reside in, not your age, not your health.”
