David J. Weber, MD, MPH to Lead as SHEA 2025 President
On January 1, 2025, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) will welcome David J. Weber, MD, MPH as the new board of trustees President. Renowned for his work in infection prevention and healthcare epidemiology, Dr. Weber will succeed Dr. Tom Talbot, furthering SHEA’s mission to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) around the globe.
Currently, Dr. Weber is the Charles Addison and Elizabeth Ann Sanders Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, Professor of Epidemiology at the UNC Gillings School, Associate Chief Medical Officer at the UNC Medical Center, and Medical Director at the Department of Infection Prevention. His leadership has fostered significant advancements in HAIs science and prevention.
Dr. Weber is a dedicated advocate for evidence-based strategies to fight infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. Commenting on his new role, Dr. Weber said, “I’m honored to assume this leadership role at SHEA.
