Phoenix Resident Raises Traffic Concerns Due to School Pickup Line
A Phoenix local has voiced concerns about persistent traffic blockages near 32nd Street and Cactus Road, attributing the issue to a school pickup line. John May, a resident in the area, described the traffic situation as chaotic and disruptive.
According to May, the queueing of cars during school pick-up times at BASIS Primary on 32nd Street is causing significant inconvenience. “It’s essentially a gridlock, restricting us from day-to-day tasks including shopping and refueling at the nearby Circle K,” he said.
During an observation, ABC15 noted cars lining up to collect students from the school, occasionally extending up to the intersection of 32nd Street and Cactus Road, blocking access to neighboring businesses.
In response to the raised concerns, ABC15 enquired with the school about any measures taken to manage traffic efficiently. A spokesperson from BASIS Phoenix Primary provided a statement:
“At BASIS Phoenix Primary, as is the case with all 39 BASIS Charter Schools, we place utmost importance on the safety of our students, their families, and the local community during drop-off and pick-up periods. We work closely with city officials and law enforcement to implement productive traffic management strategies, ensuring minimal interruption while prioritizing safety.”
Despite the response, May expressed hopes that the school would reconsider its traffic plan to alleviate the growing issue.
