Former Gastonia Officer Charged with Multiple Felonies

Ex-Gastonia police officer, Xana Dajanae Dove, faces 32 felony charges, including buying guns for others. Dove, 26, was arrested and charged on Tuesday. Her bond was increased from $250,000 to $1 million when she faced a judge on Wednesday, and a court-appointed attorney now represents her.

Dove’s Misuse of Police Equipment

The charges against Dove originate from a joint investigation by the Gastonia Police Department and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Prosecutors allege that Dove misused her position as a police officer to commit crimes since last year. The district attorney revealed that a confidential informant provided a picture containing information only accessible to law enforcement, sparking an investigation.

Accusations and Charges

Investigations indicate that Dove used police equipment to check for warrants and license plates, relaying this information to unauthorised individuals for payment. Additionally, the district attorney claimed that Dove facilitated the selling of marijuana and fentanyl and also bought guns for others.

Serious Charges

Dove was charged with fifteen counts of accessing a government computer, one count of obstruction of justice, one count of conspiring to sell marijuana, one count of conspiring to deliver marijuana, and four counts of felony conspiracy. She also stands accused of four counts of conspiring to purchase a stolen motor vehicle, one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, two counts each of trafficking opiates by delivery, trafficking opiates by transportation, trafficking opiates by possession, and trafficking by sale.

Apologies and Previous Employment

In court, Dove expressed remorse and claimed ignorance of the gravity of her actions. She was terminated from her role with the City of Gastonia on Nov. 15. Gastonia Police Chief Trent Conard expressed his disappointment with Dove’s actions and emphasized that they do not represent the dedication and integrity of his department.

Previous Arrests

Dove had been previously arrested on Sept. 28 on multiple charges, including conspiring with her twin sister to steal over $6,000 from Wells Fargo. She was charged with two counts of obstruction of justice, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses, and filing a false police report.
