Arizona Humane Society Unveils New Campus

The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) has unveiled its new Rob and Melani Walton Papago Park Campus. Initiated ten years ago, the construction was completed on November 4, 2021.

This state-of-the-art campus, located near Papago Park (5501 E Van Buren St, Phoenix at the Loop 202 and 143 freeways), boasts a world-class animal trauma hospital offering comprehensive medical and behavioral care. Remarkably, 80% of the animals assisted by AHS are treated in this trauma hospital.

AHS CEO, Dr. Steven R. Hansen, shared more insight into the functionalities of the new campus.

In addition to medical services, the campus features outdoor yards and indoor classrooms for children’s camps during spring break. These facilities allow children to interact with pets and learn about animal welfare.

Visitors can also enjoy a cup of coffee from the AHS coffee shop while interacting with cats or taking in some fresh air.

The focus of the South Mountain campus is to provide adoption and long-term behavioral care services.

Meanwhile, the Sunny Slope location, previously centered on spaying, neutering, and vaccination services, is set to reopen as a full community service hospital for owned animals.

Dr.Hansen highlighted that the aim of the campus is to be a space where the public can casually visit, witness dogs being trained or surgeries being performed, and gain in-depth knowledge about their operations from guided tours.
