Sidik Fofana, a Brooklyn-based short story writer and public school teacher, participated in the U-M English Department Zell Visiting Writers Series on October 5, 2023. Fofana read and discussed his work, particularly his 2022 debut collection “Stories from the Tenants Downstairs,” which explores personal challenges and the gentrification of Harlem. Renowned Brooklyn-based author and public school teacher, Sidik Fofana, will be reading from and discussing his work at the Zell Visiting Writers Series of U-M English Department. Known for his 2022 debut collection, Stories from the Tenants Downstairs, Fofana’s stories revolve around characters in Harlem, confronted with personal challenges amid threatening gentrification.
The event includes a Q&A session, followed by a free talk by Fofana titled, “Promise That You Will Sing About Me: Craft Lessons That I’ve Learned From Hip-Hop Songs” the next day (10-11 a.m., 3222 Angell Hall).
