An off-duty officer from the Greensboro Police Department was fatally shot after witnessing a crime at the Sheetz on Sandy Ridge Road. The Search for the Suspects

According to officials, the police are in pursuit of two suspects who fled westward toward I-40 in a Chevrolet Equinox sporting the North Carolina tag KKA-4332. One suspect was dressed in a black hoodie, black sweatpants, black shoes, and a green/gray toboggan. The other was wearing a jean jacket with fur, gray sweatpants, and tennis shoes. A Blue Alert initially issued was canceled around 7:52 p.m.

Responding to the Tragedy

Chief Thompson requested prayers for the bereaved family and the Greensboro Police Department, and thanked several agencies for their assistance in the manhunt. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper pledged all available state resources to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. “Our prayers are with the Greensboro police and family and loved ones. Every effort must be made to bring justice in this tragic situation,” he said on the social media platform X.

Efforts to Save the Officer

Another off-duty officer and a Guilford County paramedic tried to rescue the officer at the scene. However, despite their efforts, the officer was transported to a hospital and later died. “He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother with 22 years of service to the department and this community,” Thompson mournfully stated. The Greensboro police have yet to release the name of the fallen officer.
