High Costs, Declining Trust: Americans’ Frustration with U.S. Healthcare Continues

105

TL/DR –

The Beryl Institute’s PX Pulse survey shows that while 92% of Americans believe trust in healthcare is important, only 36% have strong trust in the current system. The highest levels of trust in care are reported by affluent, white, male Republicans aged 35 and older, highlighting a notable demographic contrast in perceptions of the U.S healthcare system. Crucially, the survey emphasizes a call for more affordable, transparent, and accessible healthcare that respects and values patients as individuals and not merely as numbers.

Frustrations Over High Costs and Declining Trust in US Healthcare System

The Beryl Institute’s July 2025 PX Pulse report reveals ongoing concerns about the U.S healthcare system’s declining trust levels and high costs. According to the findings from the 17th edition of the PX Pulse survey, 92% of consumers consider trust in healthcare crucial, yet only 36% hold strong trust in the present system, and a mere 25% trust it more than they did a year ago.

Varying Levels of Trust in Healthcare Systems Across Demographics

The survey indicates trust variations across different communities, with the highest levels of trust reported by affluent, white, male Republicans aged 35 and older. A staggering 62% of the American population trusts nurses, making them the most trusted group or institution, while four in ten Americans express little to no trust in insurance providers or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Desire for Affordable, Transparent, and Accessible Healthcare

Regardless of the trust gap, Americans consistently demand a healthcare system that is affordable, transparent, accessible, and respectful. Call for lower costs, upfront pricing, clear insurance coverage, timely access to care, shorter wait times, and equitable services are all prominent. Respondents seek an individualized treatment, free from interference by profit and politics.
