Raleigh Woman Charged with DWI After Lethal I-40 Crash

A Raleigh woman faces charges of driving while intoxicated, contributing to a fatal accident on Interstate 40. The accident occurred when Mildo Velasquez stopped to fix a loose trailer, resulting in his death.

The incident took place around 8:15 p.m. near the Wallace exit for Highway 41. North Carolina State Highway Patrol officials report Velasquez was attempting to safely reattach the utility trailer to his truck when tragedy struck.

Raylee Greico, 19, allegedly impaired by marijuana at the time of the accident, failed to reduce her speed. As a result, she struck a car that had also stopped on the interstate. This collision caused the car to hit the trailer, leading to a jackknife incident that resulted in Velasquez’s death.

Alongside the charge for driving under the influence, Greico also faces charges of underage DWI and failure to reduce speed. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol suggests that further charges may be forthcoming.
