Iranian War: Civilian Buildings and Healthcare Facilities Affected

The ongoing war between Iran, the United States, and Israel has severely affected civilian living conditions and healthcare facilities, as reported by the Iranian Red Crescent Society. The conflict, which has lasted for more than 11 days, has led to the damage of approximately 20,000 civilian buildings, including 16,000 residential units, and 77 healthcare facilities.

Mojtaba Khaledi, a spokesperson for the Iranian Red Crescent Society, during an interview with state television, did not specify whether any hospitals were directly hit or how many hospitals were impacted. However, he disclosed that some hospitals are currently out of service, leaving a significant number of patients without essential treatment. Furthermore, 16 Red Crescent centres have been relocated to ensure continuous rescue operations.

In an illustration of the war’s impact, Khaledi spoke near a damaged administrative building related to a bank, further explaining that surrounding residential buildings had also been affected. Educational facilities have not been spared, with 65 schools suffering varying levels of damage.

The most devastating incident to date is the attack on the Minab elementary school in southern Iran, where the conflict claimed the lives of 167 individuals, mostly students, on the war’s first day.

Amid the escalating conflict, Iranian armed forces have announced that US and Israeli banks and economic interests, as well as tech companies with military applications, are now considered legitimate targets. The Iranian government is reassuring citizens of ample stockpiles of essential goods, including food and medicine, and has activated contingency plans for importing necessities.

Regarding the war’s human toll, Deputy Health Minister Ali Jafarian reports over 12,000 injuries and 1,250 civilian deaths, including 200 children and women. In contrast, the Israeli army claims to have killed 1,900 military personnel without commenting on civilian casualties.

Healthcare workers have also suffered, with 11 killed and 55 injured. Some clinical facilities are now inactive, and patients are being evacuated from others. The Persian Gulf Martyrs Hospital, located near a key IRGC naval base, is currently non-operational due to damage from US attacks.

Emergency resources are strained, with 18 ambulances and 21 medical emergency centers damaged, and at least 670 surgeries performed on the wounded. Iranian authorities are calling on international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, to prevent further civilian harm.
