Kari Lake, a candidate for the Arizona Senate, declined to participate in a televised debate with her opponent, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb. A recent CBS News/YouGov poll showed Lake trailing Democrat Ruben Gallego by 13 points, and only drawing support from 73% of Republican voters and 22% of moderates. Kari Lake Dodges Debate with Mark Lamb: A Fearful Strategy?

Kari Lake dodged a televised debate with opponent Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, raising concerns about voters’ awareness of their choices in the July 30 primary.

A recent CBS News/YouGov poll showed Donald Trump leading by five points in Arizona, reflecting his influence on Republicans in Congress. However, the same poll revealed Lake lagging behind Democrat Ruben Gallego by 13 points.

While Trump enjoys the backing of 93% of Republican voters, Lake only secures 73% support. Among moderates, a critical demographic for the Nov. 5 race, only 22% expressed plans to vote for Lake, compared to 58% for Gallego.

Lamb, a staunch conservative like Lake, has been successful in previous elections. He’s known for his focus on border control, a contrast to Lake’s emphasis on combating election fraud.

In the past, Lake criticized Democrat Katie Hobbs’ refusal to participate in a debate during the gubernatorial election. Lake asserted that debates are a crucial part of democracy and refusing to participate was a sign of cowardice. She even posted a picture of a chicken as a symbolic gesture.

However, Lake recently declined an invitation from the Arizona Citizens Clean Election Commission to debate Lamb on June 26. Gina Roberts, voter education director for the Commission, confirmed that they will proceed with a 30-minute Q&A with Lamb instead.

Lake once said, “Debates between candidates are a critical part of ‘our democracy.’ Politicians who avoid them show disrespect to the office and the people.” Ironically, Lake’s refusal to debate now contradicts her earlier stance.

Her decision not to participate in the debate has left many Republican primary voters feeling disrespected and let down.

In conclusion, the refusal to debate can be summed up in three words: Buc buc, Bwaawk.
