TL/DR –
Kari Lake, a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, has been moved to the State Department. Lake, who failed to secure the Arizona Governor’s Office or a seat in the U.S. Senate, has been known for her alignment with Trump’s views, including criticizing the media and supporting claims of stolen elections. Previously, Lake was appointed by Trump to run the Voice of America, a respected media outlet, but the agency was dismantled before she could assume her role.
Kari Lake Joins the State Department
Former Arizona governor candidate, Kari Lake, has been moved to the State Department. Known for her ardent support of Donald Trump, she has been compared to Trump in high heels and is popular for her ability to rally the MAGA Nation.
Despite her popularity, Lake has struggled to secure a political position. She failed to win the Arizona Governor’s Office or a U.S. Senate seat, even with Trump’s support. There were rumors about her becoming the ambassador to Mexico, but that didn’t materialize.
Eventually, Trump appointed her to run the Voice of America, a respected media outlet created during World War II. However, before Lake could take charge, Trump began dismantling the agency.
Without missing a beat, Lake supported the decision to dissolve the agency she was supposed to lead, calling it a “giant rot and burden to the American taxpayer”. Now, she has been moved to the State Department. The Washington Post reports that her new role is unclear, but she will be working on finishing the job of dismantling the U.S. Agency for Global Media and its various outlets, provided courts allow it.
Despite the uncertainty, Lake is thrilled with her new position, stating, “I am thrilled to be working on behalf of President Trump and this administration. He put me in this role because I’m a fighter.”
What’s Next for Lake?
Since World War II, the Voice of America has provided news to people living under oppressive regimes where free press is non-existent. As it was meant to operate independently of any presidential administration, it was a prime target for Trump, and subsequently, Lake.
Now at the State Department, Lake’s next move is uncertain. Given her current position, a role as an ambassador might be a logical next step. The location, however, remains to be seen.
