Noted dentist and respected community figure, Dr. Dan W. Collins, 76, from Negaunee, MI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 6, 2024, at UP Health System Marquette.
Born July 21, 1947, in Ishpeming to George and Helen (Jensen) Collins, Dr. Collins graduated from Negaunee High School in 1965. He pursued higher education at Northern Michigan University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education in 1969. Following his teaching stint at a middle school, he furthered his education in dental studies at the University of Michigan, graduating with honors in 1976.
Dr. Collins returned to his roots in Ishpeming thereafter, joining his father-in-law, Dr. Stanley Holman’s dental practice. The practice later relocated to Negaunee in 1984, where he served as a trusted family dentist until his retirement in 2016. A devout member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dr. Collins was actively involved in his local community, as a member of various clubs and committees.
Remembered for his love of family, storytelling, and outdoor activities, Dr. Collins lived his life by the motto “Work hard, learn lots, and help others.” His patients appreciated not just his professional skills as a dentist, but also his genuine care and concern for their well-being.
Dr. Collins is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fae (Holman) Collins, their four children, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his extended family. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, July 19th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. Relatives and friends can pay their respects from 10:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Fortune Lake Bible Camp in Dr. Collins’ memory.
