Joshua Moser, a 33-year-old Lehigh County man, has been charged with killing his roommate, David Hittinger, with a hammer. He is also accused of dismembering the victim and scattering his remains across three separate locations.
The investigation and arrest of Joshua Moser
The investigation began with a missing person report for Hittinger, 37, on May 13. By May 15, Pennsylvania State Police had arrested Moser, as he confessed to strangling and striking Hittinger with a hammer. Moser allegedly dismembered Hittinger at his West Franklin Street home and disposed of the body parts in Slatington Borough and Washington Township.
Discovery of the dismembered body
Investigators later found dismembered body parts in trash bags at three separate locations: the Fairview Cemetery in Slatington, an area off of the D&L Trail in Slatington, and a small quarry behind Northern Lehigh High School in Washington Township. Hittinger was identified through a fingerprint on a dismembered hand.
Moser faces charges, no threat to the public
Moser was arraigned on May 17 on charges of criminal homicide, abuse of corpse, and tampering with evidence. He is currently detained at the Monroe County Prison. During a press conference, Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan stated that there seems to be no threat to the public, and the crime seemed to stem from a disagreement between Moser and Hittinger.
