Man Arrested Following High-Speed Chase, Police Collision in Mesa

Mesa, AZ Police Chase Ends in Arrest

A man is currently in custody having led the Mesa Police Department on a nighttime chase, culminating in a collision with a police car.

At approximately 11 p.m., Saturday, Mesa Police responded to a fight on Dobson and Baseline roads with indications of a firearm involved. As they were en route, additional reports of gunfire and the suspect’s escape were received.

Upon locating the suspect’s car, officers attempted a traffic stop to no avail. The chase entered Tempe, leading to a car crash near Baseline Road and McClintock Drive.

Suspect Fleeing on Foot struck by Police Car

The suspect, a 21-year-old male yet to be identified, attempted to escape on foot post-crash, running west on Baseline. As officers pursued, the man turned and ran toward them. Attempts to tase the suspect were unsuccessful, leading an officer to hit the suspect with his patrol car when the man seemingly reached for his waistband. This resulted in the police vehicle colliding with a tree.

The suspect received on-scene treatment before being transported to a hospital where he is in stable condition. No other individuals were injured during the pursuit.

Upon his release from the hospital, the suspect faces booking on multiple felony charges.
