An individual is now in custody after reportedly discharging approximately 50 bullets using two combat-style rifles and a handgun, a terrifying scene as described by a local resident.

The accused discharged the rounds from the roof and a balcony at the Marina 41 apartment complex around 10:15 p.m. Saturday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reports that the suspect was equipped with two AR-15-style rifles and a handgun, frequently reloading as sheriff’s SWAT teams worked to diffuse the situation. He was also donning a bulletproof vest.

LASD made a statement regarding the incident, “Upon arrival, deputies could hear active gunfire. An LASD Aero unit spotted a male suspect on the roof firing a rifle.” Four BearCats were called to the scene in response to the unfolding incident.

Residents were petrified by the event, with one stating, “We’ve never experienced any active shooter situation at this level, it’s very concerning.” Others recounted hiding in their apartments for hours, monitoring the situation via social media.

Elizabeth Amos recalled her experience, “For those three hours, we were barricaded in silence, following updates on the Citizen App. With every moment of silence, our fear escalated.”

Connor Hedges recounted, “It was rapid fire, then he’d stop for 20-30 minutes, then he’d continue. All we could hear were police, helicopters, and a lot of commotion.”

The unidentified suspect was apprehended around 1 a.m. Residents who knew the suspect were shocked, raising concerns about their safety. “He seemed perfectly normal, it makes you wonder. I don’t feel safe at all,” Amos revealed.
