A Woodhull Medical Center employee, Jermain Rigueur, was arrested for allegedly stabbing six people in unprovoked attacks in New York City. The suspect, who had no prior criminal record, now faces charges of attempted murder, felony assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Rigueur was said to have passed a background check and displayed no signs of mental health issues. Over nine days, he allegedly stabbed five individuals with a hunting knife in separate incidents in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens. Police also linked a sixth attack on a J train in Williamsburg to the suspect.
On the evening of January 8th, a 61-year-old man was stabbed in the back. A 34-year-old woman was attacked from behind and stabbed on the right side of her torso shortly after midnight on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, three men were stabbed in separate incidents. All victims were treated at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and are in stable condition.
The attacker was described as 5-foot with a dark gray jacket, black pants, black shoes, and a blue mask. The NYPD launched a public campaign for information on the suspect’s whereabouts, offering a $3,500 reward for useful tips.
