OAKLAND, Calif. – Multiple arrests have been made relating to the fatal shooting of an Oakland police officer. Officer Tuan Le was responding to a reported burglary at a cannabis business when he was killed. One arrestee has been identified as Mark Sanders, 27.

Sanders, charged with murder and other felonies, was arrested with assistance from the Livermore Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service San Francisco. The alleged gunman is believed to be among those arrested.

News of the arrest was shared by an Oakland police lieutenant through a broadcast to all officers, stating, “the killer of Officer Tuan Le is in custody.”

The Oakland Police Department did not specify the charges facing the other suspects arrested in connection to Officer Le’s murder.

Two suspects were arrested earlier for the burglary that preceded Officer Le’s death. Their involvement in the homicide is yet to be confirmed.

Officer Le was killed while responding to a burglary at a cannabis business. He was working undercover and driving in an unmarked vehicle when he was shot and killed by one of the suspects.

Remembrances of Officer Tuan Le

Le, a graduate of Oakland Police’s 183rd Academy, served on the robbery detail for two years. A resident, Keisha Henderson, recalls Le’s respectful manner as a community engagement officer.

Contra Costa County court records reveal that Sanders had a prior conviction for burglary. He served 120 days and was released on probation in 2022. Sanders is currently being held without bail on the murder charge at Santa Rita Jail.
