A gunman and a security officer are dead, with seven more injured after a deadly altercation erupted into a shooting at a Miami-Dade shopping center early Saturday. The incident occurred on the patio area of the Martini Bar in CityPlace Doral.

According to police, a dispute between patrons prompted a security guard to intervene. A patron involved in the fight unexpectedly drew a gun, shot, and killed the security guard. The bar’s security detail retaliated, killing the gunman. During this exchange of gunfire, six other people on the scene were injured: two women, four men, and a Doral Police officer who sustained a leg gunshot wound.

CBS News Miami reports that two of the victims were critically injured and transported to local trauma centers. The other five, including the officer, are in stable condition.

Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez highlighted that his officers had undergone an extensive training session for mass casualty incidents at this location exactly a year ago. He expressed gratitude that this training was in place, as it proved crucial during this event.

Doral Mayor Christi Fraga shared a statement, extending thoughts and prayers to the victims. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and individuals affected by this terrible incident. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the police officers who swiftly responded to the call.”
