Donald Trump Accepts National Border Patrol Council Endorsement at Arizona Rally
At a recent Arizona campaign rally, former President Donald Trump pledged to hire thousands of new agents, provide them with $10,000 bonuses, and accepted an endorsement from the National Border Patrol Council. Trump warned of an ‘invasion’ from foreign countries, blaming Vice President Kamala Harris for the influx of migrants and labeling her a ‘border czar’ and ‘taxing queen’.
He rallied supporters in Prescott Valley, drawing some 7,000 attendees according to the Trump campaign. Immigration was a focal point of his speech, citing it as the “number one issue” of the election. Despite record highs of migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border under the Biden administration, these numbers have decreased by 77% from December 2023 to August 2024.
Trump accepted an endorsement from the National Border Patrol Council, promising to hire 10,000 new Border Patrol agents and to request a 10% pay raise and $10,000 signing bonuses for them. In response to Trump’s comments, Harris’s campaign highlighted Trump’s previous failed promise of Mexico funding his border wall and accused him of not caring about problem-solving.
Trump also attacked Harris personally, comparing her unfavorably to President Joe Biden. He further appealed to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, emphasizing the importance of family as foundational to society’s success. He suggested that gaining support from LDS members could secure his electoral victory in Arizona and Nevada.
The former president made several economic promises during his speech, including reducing inflation, creating more auto industry jobs, eliminating taxes on tips, overtime pay, and Social Security benefits, and making car loan interest payments tax deductible. He also encouraged early voting, a change from his previous stance in the 2020 election.
Arizona Republican Party chair Gina Swoboda echoed Trump’s call for early voting. Attendees included former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and GOP U.S. Reps. Eli Crane, Paul Gosar, and Andy Biggs. GOP Senate hopeful Kari Lake also appeared on stage with Trump, praising him as one of the greatest leaders in history.
Trump has visited Arizona four times this year, while Harris has made two visits in the last two weeks. Arizona’s 11 electoral votes make it a critical battleground state in the upcoming election.
Many rally attendees expressed hope for Trump’s victory, citing his plans to ease increasing costs and strengthen the state’s southern border. Ana Moreno, 30, of Phoenix, and Holly Gibson, 50, of Scottdale, both cited economic concerns as a key factor in their support for Trump.
