Representatives Introduce More Affordable Care Act to Reform Obamacare
TL/DR –
Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11) and Rep. Aaron Bean (FL-04) introduced the More Affordable Care Act (MACA), a companion to Senator Rick Scott’s (R-FL) legislation. The act intends to reform healthcare by redirecting power from insurance companies and federal bureaucracies to consumers through four components: creating “Trump Health Freedom Accounts” for individual Americans, establishing a “Health Freedom Waiver Program” to expand competition, supporting small businesses through expanded tax credits, and codifying price transparency for patients. The legislators believe MACA will address issues of Obamacare, including lack of choices and high costs, while several outside organizations, such as the Economic Policy Innovation Center, also expressed support for the legislation.
WASHINGTON, D.C — Reps. August Pfluger (TX-11) and Aaron Bean (FL-04) Introduce the House Companion to Senator Rick Scott’s (R-FL) More Affordable Care Act
According to Breitbart Representatives August Pfluger (TX-11) and Aaron Bean (FL-04) introduced the House companion to Senator Rick Scott’s (R-FL) More Affordable Care Act (MACA). The healthcare legislation aims to overhaul Obamacare through four key reforms, redirecting control away from insurers and federal bureaucracy to consumers.
MACA aims to replace the one-size-fits-all approach with “Trump Health Freedom Accounts”, allowing families to select coverage that suits their needs. The bill offers a meaningful alternative to Obamacare, promoting competition and transparency to address fundamental failures that have led to limited options and increased costs for families.
The proposed legislation will also provide tax relief for small businesses, encouraging employer-sponsored coverage and ensuring price transparency for patients. The full text of the legislation is available here.
“The More Affordable Care Act will lower costs, expand consumer choice, and increase transparency for patients by establishing Health Freedom Accounts and a Health Freedom Waiver Program. We’re putting health care decisions back where they belong: in the hands of American families, not Washington bureaucrats,” said Rep. Pfluger (TX-11).
“This legislation empowers Americans to make informed healthcare decisions, increases choice and competition, and lowers healthcare costs. This is America First healthcare, under House Republican leadership, we’re fixing the broken system,” added Rep. Bean (FL-04).
The More Affordable Care Act: Key Reforms
MACA aims to repair America’s healthcare system by:
1. Creating “Trump Health Freedom Accounts” – This will reallocate federal subsidies currently given to insurance companies to new, HSA-style accounts for individual Americans. These accounts can be used to cover insurance premiums or other eligible healthcare costs.
2. Establishing a “Health Freedom Waiver Program” – The program will allow states to participate in a system where health plans can be sold across state lines. This will expand health care options for individuals and encourage companies to offer competitive pricing.
3. Supporting small businesses– MACA will expand the small business tax credit to encourage employer-sponsored coverage. The legislation raises the threshold for eligible employees from 25 to 20, removes the $57,000 salary cap, and increases the tax credit to 50% for all qualifying employers.
4. Enforcing price transparency for patients– The legislation will permanently enforce President Trump’s hospital price transparency order. Hospitals will be required to publicly disclose negotiated rates, cash prices, and cost-sharing information, providing patients with clear, upfront pricing when shopping for high-value care.
Support for the legislation has come from multiple colleagues, including Representatives Julie Fedorchak (ND-At-Large), Jim Baird (IN-04), and Andrew Clyde (GA-09), and from outside organizations such as the Economic Policy Innovation Center.
