It has received widespread endorsement from multiple organizations and the entire Democratic caucus has signed on to co-sponsor the legislation.

Senate Democrats Propose Legislation to Repeal Healthcare Cuts and Extend ACA Tax Credits

In Washington, D.C., Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) led Democrats in presenting new legislation aimed at reversing the recent healthcare cuts approved by Senate Republicans in the “Big, Ugly Betrayal.” The proposed bill also seeks to permanently extend the ACA premium tax credits.

Earlier this month, Republicans passed a controversial bill that would eliminate health insurance for nearly 15 million individuals and cut over one trillion dollars from healthcare. Notably, Senate Democrats, including Schumer, Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR), Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Budget Committee Ranking Member Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), are pushing back. They introduced the Protecting Healthcare And Lowering Costs Act, which aims to reverse the healthcare cuts and extend the ACA tax credits.

Democrats aim to remind American citizens of the bipartisan creation of Medicaid and Medicare 60 years ago, programs designed to support lower-income and elderly citizens. They argue that Republicans are compromising these promises by proposing cuts that would sacrifice healthcare for millions while providing tax cuts for billionaires.

The full text of the legislation has received endorsement by organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union, AFL-CIO, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), and the American Heart Association, among many others.
