Severe Storms cause Flight Delays at Denver International Airport

Over 800 flights were delayed at Denver International Airport due to severe storms sweeping the state on Friday. The officials at DIA issued a travel advisory around 1:24 p.m., urging passengers to check with their airlines for potential weather-related delays.

Approximately 811 flights were delayed and 56 total cancellations were reported as of 9:51 p.m. The storms eventually led to a ground delay at DIA. According to the First Alert Weather Team, another round of thunderstorms was expected to hit Colorado’s Front Range and out onto the Eastern Plains.

Severe storms were predicted, mostly north of Denver and in the mountains. Due to this prediction, Friday was declared a First Alert Weather Day, announced by First Alert Meteorologists Callie Zanandrie and Dayle Cedars.

The weather team also predicted possible localized flooding in certain areas. A flash flood threat was elevated for the following burn scar areas: Cameron Peak, East Troublesome, Calwood and Williams Fork. A flood watch was also in effect for the Western Slope till midnight due to heavy rainfall.
