Shooting at North Kansas City High School, Multiple Law Enforcement Agencies Respond

North Kansas City High School was the scene of a shooting incident Saturday night, prompting a response from multiple law enforcement agencies including the North Kansas City Police Department, Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and Missouri State Highway Patrol. The shooting reportedly happened during a basketball game where the North Kansas City Hornets were playing the Staley Falcons in the Class 6 District 8 High School Basketball Tournament.

According to a letter to parents from North Kansas City School District officials, police already on site in a security capacity responded immediately. The school was put on lockdown as the situation was assessed. The letter stated that up to three victims are being given medical assistance.

The North Kansas City Police shared with KMBC 9’s Peyton Headlee that two people were injured in the shooting, which took place at the end of the basketball game. However, it remains uncertain if the incident occurred inside or outside the school. KMBC 9 News crews reported a large section of the campus cordoned off by crime scene tape, with both victims in critical condition, including at least one juvenile.
