Swajanen Tops 5 Marquette Stars in GNC Softball Honors

TL/DR –

Freshman Charlye Swajanen of Marquette High School earned a spot on the All-Great Northern Conference (GNC) First Team in softball and was also named to the Michigan High School Coaches Association’s All-District team. Marquette junior infielder Cecelia Fuller was named to the GNC Second Team, while senior infielder Jayden Raymond, junior infielder Halle Haynes, and junior catcher Layla Haynes were given Honorable Mention. Special awards in the league were swept by Escanaba and Gladstone, with awards for Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and Pitcher of the Year.

Charlye Swajanen, a freshman infielder from Marquette, led five players receiving postseason honors in the Great Northern Conference (GNC) in softball, selected by league coaches. Swajanen, also effective as a pitcher, made the All-GNC First Team, a distinction shared by 13 players from five schools.

Additional honorees from Marquette Senior High School (MSHS) include Cecelia Fuller, a junior infielder who made the GNC Second Team, and Jayden Raymond, Halle Haynes, and Layla Haynes who received Honorable Mention. Derek Swajanen, the team’s head coach, also confirmed Charlye Swajanen’s inclusion in the Michigan High School Coaches Association’s All-District team.

Special awards from the league went to Delta County’s Escanaba and Gladstone. Escanaba’s Grayson LaMarche was Player of the Year, with Carly Bowden receiving Defensive Player of the Year. Coach of the Year went to Andy Fields and Escanaba also earned Team of the Year. Gladstone saw Lauren Sundquist named Offensive Player of the Year and Montgomery Pepin as Pitcher of the Year.
