Teenager Arrested in Gwinn after High-Speed Police Chase

He was charged with third-degree fleeing and eluding, three counts of fourth-degree fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and operating without a license, and is now awaiting arraignment in the Marquette County Jail.


Gwinn man, 18, faces charges following police chase in Marquette County

A Gwinn man, 18, is facing multiple charges after leading police on a half-hour pursuit in Marquette County Tuesday evening. Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers reported observing a pickup truck committing several traffic violations on southbound US-41 around 6:25 p.m. The vehicle committed various infractions including speeding, passing on the right, tailgating, improper lane use, and running a red light at the intersection of US-41 and M-553 (McClellan Ave.). The truck also had a faulty third brake lamp and a defective exhaust.

Despite activating their emergency lights, troopers were unable to get the vehicle to pull over, leading it to continue southbound on M-553. Marquette Police Department unit, nearby at the time, spotted the vehicle and initiated a pursuit that looped through Marquette and Chocolay Townships before concluding in West Branch Township.

The suspect was apprehended around 6:55 p.m. He now faces charges including one count of third-degree fleeing and eluding, three counts of fourth-degree fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and driving without a license. He is currently held in Marquette County Jail awaiting arraignment. The suspect’s name remains undisclosed.

Various law enforcement agencies participated in the incident, including the Marquette Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Chocolay Township Police Department, and Forsyth Township Police Department.

This marks the second police chase in Marquette County in two days.
