Brigham, who has a neurological disorder, was struck again on the arm before the bear was chased away.

Brigham is currently being treated at a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Shawn Wagner from the Arizona game and fish department praised the family’s quick response, KCTV reported.

Bear Safety Recommendations

The agency advises those in bear areas to secure food and other attractants, avoid cooking in tents, and set up campsites away from water bodies. Wearing scented products is discouraged. If confronted by a bear, back away slowly, maintain eye contact, and make yourself appear larger. Throw items or yell if attacked. Despite these precautions, Wagner noted that bear attacks remain extremely rare.
