Trump Mistakenly Refers to Nikki Haley as Pelosi Discussing Jan. 6
TL/DR –
Former President Donald Trump reportedly referred to Nikki Haley instead of Nancy Pelosi while discussing the January 6 Capitol riot at a rally in New Hampshire. Trump has previously claimed that Pelosi turned down his offer of 10,000 soldiers on the day of the riots, a claim that has been debunked. It is not the first time Trump has confused politicians in his speeches, previously referring to Joe Biden as Barack Obama, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as the leader of Turkey.
Trump Incorrectly References Nikki Haley in Jan. 6 Riot Discussion
During a recent campaign rally in New Hampshire, Donald Trump seemingly confused Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi while discussing the Jan. 6 riot. The former President’s speech lasted for over 90 minutes and frequently criticized Haley. However, Haley, a former ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, was never a congressional member.
Trump blamed Haley for the deletion and destruction of information and evidence related to the Jan. 6 incident. He accused her of declining a security offer involving 10,000 soldiers or National Guard.
Prior to this, Trump had falsely accused Pelosi of similar actions, a claim earlier debunked by the now-defunct Jan. 6 committee.
Trump, known for portraying President Joe Biden as confused, has a history of confusions himself. In September, he mixed up Biden with former President Barack Obama.
In past instances, Trump has defended his mix-ups as sarcastic jests to suggest that other people might be influencing the country’s leadership. Recently, he mislabeled Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as Turkey’s leader and confused Sioux City, Iowa, with Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Although Biden has had his own gaffes and flubs, he has not weaponized mental fitness as a campaign issue like Trump. For instance, Biden mistakenly asked about the presence of deceased Rep. Jackie Walorski at a White House event in 2022.
A recent NBC News poll revealed that 74% of respondents were worried about 80-year-old Biden’s mental and physical health for a potential second term, while 47% had similar concerns about Trump.
