TL/DR –

WellNow Urgent Care has announced it will no longer accept Excellus BlueCross BlueShield health insurance. This follows unsuccessful contract discussions between the two parties, during which Excellus offered increased reimbursement rates, which were rejected by WellNow. Excellus has stated that WellNow will now be an out-of-network provider, meaning members may face higher costs for out-of-network care.

WellNow Urgent Care Refuses Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Health Insurance

WellNow Urgent Care has stopped accepting Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Health Insurance, effective from Monday, January 1. The urgent care provider presented a declaration last Sunday, to the surprise of many individuals covered by the insurance.

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield revealed that it had attempted to sustain its partnership with WellNow through comprehensive contract negotiations. The health insurance giant offered a proposal featuring enhanced reimbursements, which WellNow dismissed.

As previously reported in October, WellNow highlighted their intention to sever ties with Excellus over concerns about inadequate rates. WellNow issued a warning to upgrade present and renewal reimbursement rates to reflect the cost and merit of its services.

Despite pleas from lawmakers to Excellus CEO, Jim Reed, to revisit the conditions, Reed asserted that the company could not accept WellNow’s terms, accusing them of running an aggressive campaign against Excellus.

Consequently, Excellus classified WellNow as an out-of-network provider, which could result in members paying more for out-of-network care. However, certain benefits may offset some of the expenses.

Excellus members are encouraged to visit their online account to view plan coverage or contact the Customer Care phone number provided on their member card for further details.
