Voter Fatigue Mounts Against Kari Lake

121

TL/DR –

Senate candidate Kari Lake is facing challenges as more than a dozen Republican lawyers in Arizona, who were part of Team Election Integrity in 2020 and 2022, have reportedly declined to support her in the upcoming round of lawsuits. NBC News reports that the attorneys have grown tired of conspiracy theories and “Lake fatigue” has set in. The situation has led the Republican National Committee to bring in California attorney Harmeet Dhillon to Arizona for the final weeks of the campaign.

Kari Lake Facing Challenges in Upcoming Election

With only 20 days until the election, things are looking quite bleak for Senate candidate Kari Lake. Despite polls showing her trailing Ruben Gallego, it’s the loss of support from Republican lawyers that is causing concern.

NBC News reports that over a dozen Republican lawyers in Arizona, previously on Team Election Integrity, are not supporting the coming lawsuits. It seems conspiracy theories and Lake “fatigue” have taken their toll.

Arizona GOP Lawyers Distancing from Lake

NBC also reports that Kory Langhofer, chief legal counsel for Trump and the Republican National Committee’s “election integrity” operation in Arizona, recently resigned. Other usual GOP election attorneys are also keeping their distance.

The situation is so dire that the RNC has had to bring in California attorney Harmeet Dhillon to Arizona for the final weeks of the campaign. Despite this, there is a perception amongst some Republican lawyers that they are not doing enough to fend off fraud.

Three GOP lawyers involved in previous Arizona campaigns have told NBC that the problem lies with Kari Lake, particularly her propensity to see a conspiracy everywhere. Lake’s refusal to accept her loss in 2022 and her tendency for defaming Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer, have made her a constant job for election lawyers.

Lake’s Campaign Expresses Confidence

The Lake campaign has expressed confidence in Harmeet Dhillon and Arizona GOP Chairwoman Gina Swoboda leading the Election Integrity efforts in Arizona. Caroline Wren, Lake’s senior spokesperson, told NBC News that they are “thrilled” with this outcome.

However, with even attorneys distancing themselves from Lake’s campaign, it remains to be seen how this situation will evolve in the coming weeks.
