Washtenaw Community College: A Gold Level Veteran-Friendly School

For the sixth consecutive year, Washtenaw Community College (WCC) in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has achieved the gold-level veteran-friendly status for the 2023-2024 academic year. The prestigious recognition comes from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency and is awarded to academic institutions that provide exceptional support to veterans and military-connected students.

Out of the numerous higher education institutions evaluated by the agency, only 62 were honored with gold, silver, and bronze statuses this year. WCC’s award acknowledges its exemplary services to student-veterans, including career advising, academic resources, and credit recognition for military experience. Additionally, the institution provides an on-campus veterans coordinator.

WCC President, Dr. Rose B. Bellanca, expressed the college’s honor and pride in serving the nearly 600 veterans and military families who benefit from the services of the Wadhams Veterans Center at WCC.

Benjamin Whisman, president of the Student Veterans of America Club at WCC and a nursing student, attested to the college’s resources and affordability. He credited his successful transition to WCC as the smartest decision in his academic journey and praised the school’s seamless credit transfer with the University of Michigan.

As part of its ongoing veteran support, WCC celebrated Veterans Day with a lineup of campus events, including a flag-raising ceremony and breakfast. Click here to view photos from the 2023 Veterans Day celebration at WCC.
