MVSKOKE RESERVATION Dance for Life Program

The Health Department of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation has introduced its Dance for Life program under the guidance of Julie Bryant, a Mvskoke tribal member. This initiative, available at three Indian Community Centers on the reservation, is open to all MCN Tribal and Health Staff, MCN community elders, and those participating in the walking program. The program, which is free of charge, will run until the end of May.

Dance for Life sessions will be held at the Weleetka Indian Community Center, Glenpool Indian Community Center, and Twin Hills Indian Community Center.

Fun and Fitness with Dance for Life

“Participating in the Dance for Life program is not only free but also an enjoyable and effective way to engage in aerobics. Even if you’re not a dancer or have two left feet, these classes are perfect for you,” reassured Bryant. The primary objective of this program is to promote physical activity in a fun and engaging way.

According to Bryant, these classes offer numerous benefits to participants, with a focus on enhancing aerobics, flexibility, and strength training. It’s a fitness program suitable for all age groups.

“The program is designed to cater to all fitness levels. It’s not just about standing on your feet and moving; we focus on functional movements that assist in everyday activities, such as picking things up from the floor or putting something on a shelf. Our goal is to help everyone stay as active as possible throughout their lives,” explained Bryant.

Having seen the benefits firsthand, with participants losing weight and becoming more flexible, Bryant believes that the classes are not just about fitness but also enjoying the experience. “We strive to make every session enjoyable. I believe everyone should maintain a certain level of fitness, and it’s something we can continuously improve,” she said.
