Lower Merion High School Student Honored for Work with Best Buddies International

A senior from Lower Merion High School has been recognized for her contribution to helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Her efforts were made through her involvement with Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization that works to create opportunities for friendship, employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with such disabilities.

Ally Altshuler: A Champion for Best Buddies

The student being honored this week is Ally Altshuler. She has been an active participant in the Best Buddies program since her sixth grade and currently holds the position of co-president in the Lower Merion High School’s Best Buddies Program.

In addition to her work with Best Buddies, Altshuler has also been involved in programs like the Lower Merion Soccer Club Special Needs Program, Philly Friendship Circle, and her Hebrew school’s special needs classroom. She also served as a role model in Lower Merion’s Social Learning Lab classroom.

On her involvement with Best Buddies, Altshuler stated, “Best Buddies has been and will continue to be a very important part of my life. As a Champion Candidate, I am committed to raising awareness and funds for this life-changing mission. I am so grateful for your support.”

Best Buddies Champion of the Year Gala 2023

Together with Emily Kwon from Marple Newtown High School, Altshuler is going to be honored at the Best Buddies’ Champion of the Year Gala in Philadelphia. This fundraising event will take place at Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Champion of the Year Gala is an annual event where individuals, professionals, and prominent community leaders compete to raise the most funds for Best Buddies. The one who raises the most is named the Champion of the Year. This year’s gala will celebrate the tireless efforts of seven philanthropic leaders from Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs, while raising funds for Best Buddies’ programs.

Join Best Buddies’ Mission at the Gala

Tickets for the 2023 Champion of the Year Gala are still available. Attendees will contribute to Best Buddies’ mission of creating more opportunities for friendship, employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with IDD in the Philadelphia region.

This year’s Champion of the Year Gala in Philadelphia is sponsored by several well-known companies and foundations, including Spread Bagelry, Wegmans, Fairman Group Family Office, JP Mascaro and Sons, Trulieve, Tito’s Vodka, and the K10 Kids Foundation.
