Details of the Incident
Watson, 42, appeared in a Miami-Dade court regarding a plea agreement related to the incident. Arrest documents reveal that Watson informed responding officers he was exercising when the victim provoked him to fight. Surveillance footage from the gym reportedly shows Watson assaulting the victim with his weightlifting belt.
Plea Agreement and Sentencing
The prosecutor’s plea deal includes a 21-month prison term, counting time already served. This is followed by seven years of probation and mandatory mental health treatment. The sentencing is scheduled for July 27.
Defense Arguments
In a recent hearing, Watson’s defense attorney, Eric Clemmon, argued that the lead-up to the fight was atypical. Clemmon stated that the ‘victim’ had sought out Watson due to his online presence, even purchasing a plane ticket and intentionally showing up at the gym to confront him. The confrontation then escalated further.
Additional Charges
Watson, already a convicted felon, is facing additional unrelated criminal charges in Broward County. These charges include felony battery, aggravated assault, witness tampering, and allegations of domestic violence involving his girlfriend.
