Meet This Year’s Champions of the Pa. Farm Show Mullet Contest and See the Best in Growth
Recap of Pennsylvania’s Preferred Mullet Contest at the Farm Show
On January 8th, the Main Hall Stage of the Farm Show was buzzing with excitement for the inaugural Pennsylvania’s Preferred Mullet Contest. The unique event attracted more than a hundred participants and numerous spectators eager to witness the spectacle.
Unexpected Turnout and Contest Categories
Madison Shaw, the assistant manager of the Main Hall at the Farm Show, was surprised by the large turnout. The contest was divided into three categories: Under 18, Over 18, and Throw Back, which allowed participants to submit past photos. With over 60 contestants in the Under 18 category and dozens more in the other two groups, the event was a resounding success.
Mullet Styles and Showmanship
Contestants showcased a variety of mullets, from long, straight hair to curls, some with unique designs shaved into the sides. Participants took the stage confidently, flipping their hair and displaying their unique styles with pride. Showmanship was a major factor in the contest, with participants not only presenting their hair but also their overall stage presence.
Judging and Winner Selection
The task of judging was taken by Brittany and Jason Goldberg, stylists from the Heavy Metal Hair Salon in Philadelphia. Length, styling, and presentation played a significant role in deciding the winners. Pete Brubaker of Elizabethtown clinched the first place in the Over 18 competition, and was also named Best In Grow for his impressive mullet and spirited stage presence.
Reaction from the Participants
Contestants expressed their joy and surprise at winning. Brubaker, who has been sporting his mullet for an astonishing 39 years, was thrilled at his victory. Neil Finkenbinder, a two-year-old from Duncannon who won the Under 18 category, had been sporting his mullet since he was six months old, according to his mother Amber.
Looking Forward to Next Year
Given the success of this year’s event, there are already plans to host the contest again next year. So if you missed out this year, start prepping your mullet for the 2025 Pennsylvania’s Preferred Mullet Contest.
